Internship Opportunities

Looking for a fulfilling and exciting internship or job this summer? Paid summer positions are available at Indiana’s largest multi-day event – The 2017 Indiana State Fair!

Departments and available positions:

Accounting Office: This position is responsible for providing assistance to the Accounting Department by completing daily tasks such as accounts payable, filing, data entry and creating financial reports for ISFC staff and Fair Board members. This position is excellent for accounting, finance or business administration students.

Communications: The Communications Intern completes several tasks throughout the summer regarding marketing messaging for the Indiana State Fair, such as collecting and distributing information for the Fair’s Information Booth personnel and promoting special events and programs. The position is excellent for a student in marketing, agriculture or communications.

Concessions-Event Services: This position is dedicated to assisting with the day-to-day functions of the Event Services Team and in the coordination of State Fair concessions and campground inquiries. This is an excellent position for a student with an interest in hospitality and tourism, sales, marketing and business.

Contracts: The Contracts Intern performs a variety of administrative procedures in the preparation, full execution and implementation of contracts with outside providers of goods and services. This is an excellent position for students with an interest in legal or paralegal studies.

Education: Education Department: Education Interns develop and implement programs using curriculum provided by the department. Fair projects include The Wonder Trail, Little Hands on the Farm, Take Out Gardens, The Glass Barn and school fieldtrips. This position is excellent for those with an academic background in education and agriculture.

Entry: The position of Entry Department Intern is part of the team that works to coordinate all livestock shows, competitions, and 4-H exhibits during the Indiana State Fair. This intern will have a chance to work on several projects including: fair exhibitor’s communication, State Fair preparations, show entry, and event planning for shows and contests.  Positions are open to those of all areas of study with an interest in agriculture, show management and the Indiana State Fair.

Human Resources: Interns will help with the enormous task of hiring and processing approximately 1,300 seasonal employees to work the Indiana State Fair. Duties include performing background checks, scheduling and executing employee interviews and processing payroll paperwork. This position is good for students with a background in human resources, business or any other area of study.

Indiana State Fair Foundation: The Foundation Intern will provide support to the functions of the Indiana State Fair Foundation throughout the summer and during the Indiana State Fair, developing skills in fundraising, organization, planning, implementation and community relations. This position is good for a student with interests in nonprofits and fundraising.

Marketing: The Marketing Intern assists with the planning and implementation of advertising tactics and methods for the Indiana State Fair Media Plan, branding standardization, Fair program distribution and more. Preferred areas of study include advertising, communications and marketing.

Media & Community Outreach: Gain experience by writing press releases, covering events and assisting statewide media for the Indiana State Fair. Excellent candidates include those with a background in journalism, communications, public relations, media arts, English and ag communications.

Media Arts: The Media Arts Intern will assist in the completion of graphic design projects as well as participate in the implementation of the public address booth for the Indiana State Fair. Students with an interest in marketing with experience in graphic design would be a good fit.

Parking Services: This position provides assistance in planning and implementing Parking Services operations for the Indiana State Fair including training seasonal employees, scheduling and training fundraiser groups and assisting with the physical setup of gates and parking areas for the Fair. Position open to those of all areas of study.

Program & Exhibits: This position provides assistance in the planning and implementation of events and building programming around the Fairgrounds for the State Fair. Areas of involvement include the Indiana Brewers’ Cup Competition, the Indiana Beer and Wine Exhibition, Agriculture/Horticulture Building, Indiana Arts Building, and more. This position is available to those of all areas of study looking toward a career in event production and marketing.

Safety & Security – EOC: EOC interns will be the primary staff for the Indiana State Fairgrounds Emergency Operations Center. Interns will assist with the planning and preparedness phase prior to the Fair, employee orientations and staff training, coordinate public safety resources and more. These positions are excellent for students with backgrounds in law enforcement or public safety.

Safety & Security – Hazard Assessment Team: The Hazard Assessment Team will be in the field identifying and mitigating hazards. Interns will also coordinate safety and security needs and assist with on-scene emergency response. These positions are active mid-July through the end of the Fair. A background in law enforcement or public safety is preferred.

Safety & Security – Public Safety: The Public Safety Interns respond to medical incidents and document for reports. They also assist with security operations and staff the Emergency Operations Center as necessary. Candidates for these positions should have a background in law enforcement or public safety.

Sign Shop: Hires help design and produce signs and banners for all State Fairgrounds events including the State Fair while providing excellent customer service to everyone we serve. Positions are excellent for candidates pursuing a career in graphic design and are available to those of all areas of study.
